Marshal Parks, a Placer County native, brings a unique perspective to personal injury law. Before joining Maurer Law in 2024, he spent nearly a decade as an in-house attorney for one of the nation’s largest automobile insurance companies, where he handled thousands of automobile accident claims and lawsuits and was consistently regarded within the company as one of its top-performing attorneys. Today, he uses that experience to advocate for injured people and families in the community where he grew up.

At Maurer Law, Marshal represents people and families who have been seriously injured or harmed through the negligence of others, including in automobile and trucking collisions, catastrophic injury cases, slip-and-fall and other premises liability matters, dog bites and animal attacks, and elder abuse cases. He takes pride in representing individuals rather than insurance companies and in helping clients navigate what is often one of the most difficult periods of their lives.

An Insider’s View of How Insurers Think

Marshal spent nearly a decade working inside the insurance industry, and that time gave him a clear view of how insurance companies actually handle injury claims. He saw firsthand how adjusters and defense teams evaluate a case, decide what it’s worth, assess their risk at trial, and determine when and how much to offer in settlement. He also learned which factors move those numbers and which ones insurers tend to discount or ignore.

Today, Marshal puts that knowledge to work for injured people and their families. Because he understands the defense side from the inside, he can anticipate the arguments insurers are likely to make, focus on the issues that carry the most weight in their evaluations, and build his clients’ cases with those pressures in mind from day one. For his clients, that means having an advocate who knows how the other side thinks and how to position a case for a fair result.

Local Roots and Real-World Experience

Marshal grew up in Placer County and attended Jesuit High School in Carmichael before graduating from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a degree in business economics. Before becoming an attorney, he founded and operated an organic produce company in San Francisco. That experience as a business owner gave him a practical perspective on hard work, problem-solving, and the responsibility that comes with having others rely on you.

Marshal later attended the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where he completed the evening program while continuing to work during the day. During law school, he externed for the Honorable Michael S. McManus of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of California and volunteered with McGeorge’s Bankruptcy Clinic. He earned Dean’s List honors and graduated as a member of the Traynor Honor Society.

For Marshal, practicing law in Placer County is personal. This is the community where he grew up and where he and his wife are now raising their two children. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Placer County Bar Association, an organization dedicated to supporting the local legal community through education, professional leadership, service, and collaboration. He values the opportunity to contribute to the legal community while representing people from the same communities in which he has spent much of his life.

Outside the office, Marshal enjoys spending time with his family and being outdoors, particularly snowboarding, playing softball, and spending time in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
